The Lost World

Raining heavily in Chennai since last two days .. Water Logging through out the city .. Schools - colleges closed officially .. Attendance short in Offices too .. Infact in my team also only 4 people have turned up .. AC and Lights are off .. Can't go back to home .. Don't feel like working .. Perfect time to write a BLOG !!

45 Years, this is the time since it last rained so heavily in Madras. In some areas, water is almost at waist level. Trains are being cancelled, flights delayed. (Oh God, don't delay my flight to
Delhi this Saturday) .. people dying because of wall collapses .. people dying because of electrocution .. total chaos. Now at these times a mind (which is not in a mode to work) will tend to feel awe of Nature .. will feel as an insignificant homo sapien .. think about the worst calamities .. Tsunami (it deserves first mention!) .. Earth quakes .. floods .. Elections (Bihar) .. and well what not !!

This brings me to my initial intention of writing this entry which was going to be a personal book review of "The Lost World - Michael Chricton".
Yeah, its about Dinosaurs, a sequel to 'Jurassic Park'. Apart from being a mini encyclopedia on the great lizards, its an attempted thriller too, okk to be fair it IS a thriller. Raptors and Tyrannosaurus on loose .. people running for their life .. good men .. bad men .. bad men die .. some of the good men die .. etc. But the best part of the book was that philosophical kind off stuff filled in between the run-fol-life sequences. And it was knowledge able too ..
Now I never knew that the size of the human brain increased over time. Its like this: The main weapon of the man is his thinking power, more thinking power .. larger the size of the brain. Now if a new born baby has a large head, giving birth to such a baby puts in danger the life of both mother and the child. So the humans adapted to it and pre mature deliveries started taking place. It implied that the new born baby will be completely dependent on her parents for atleast an year or two. This leads to the need of existence of a concept of family and later on to the concept of a society .. Now I did find this interesting.
And other thoughts regarding the Scientific discoveries and inferences and what not.
All in all a you-may-read types, but don't read for the plot, which is predictable, and the writing style, which is not exceptional.
